Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the largest state of the Republic of India by area Located in North-Western state of India.

Population: 56,473,122 (8th) 
Area : 342269 km2 (132151 sq mi)
It encompasses most of the area of the large, inhospitable Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which has an edge paralleling the Sutlej-Indus river valley along its border with Pakistan. Desert camel safari, wildlife viewing in few of its world famous wildlife parks, such as Ranthambore National Park, Sariska Tiger Reserve and Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, visit to many of the famous forts, havelis and temples, shopping stuffs like jewelry, painting, textiles and handicrafts items for which Rajasthan is renowned. It is one of the most beautiful states of India which attracts very large number of domestic and foreign tourist in India. The state borders Pakistan to the west, Gujarat to the southwest, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to the northeast and Punjab to the north. 
Rajasthan is famous worldwide for its historical, architectural and cultural heritage, is undoubtedly one of the best place to visit while on tour to India. The historical significance of Rajasthan is so deep that there is perhaps no any place in that don’t find any association with livid history of Rajasthan.

The main geographic features of Rajasthan are the Thar Desert and the Aravalli Range, which runs through the state from southwest to northeast, almost from one end to the other, for more than 850 km. Mount Abu is at the southwestern end of the range, separated from the main ranges by the West Banas River, although a series of broken ridges continues into Haryana in the direction of Delhi where it can be seen as outcrops in the form of the Raisina Hill and the ridges farther north. About three-fifths of Rajasthan lies northwest of the Aravallis, leaving two-fifths on the east and south.

Places like Jaipur- the pink city of India and capital of Rajasthan, Udaipur- city of lakes, Jodhpur- the sun city, Jaisalmer- the city of palaces and Bikaner- the royal fortified city are some of the important cities of Rajasthan, which are full of sightseeing historical and cultural places like temples, forts, havelis. Flocked with millions of tourists every year, these places show travellers deep signs of supremacy of their historical, natural and cultural richness.

Rajasthan attracted 14% of total foreign visitors during 2009-2010 which is fourth highest in all states of India. It positioned fourth place also in Domestic tourist visitors. World's best hotel of 2010 is awarded to Oberoi Vanyavilas ranthambhore which is located near the sanctuary of Ranthambhore. Two out of 10 World's best hotels is located in Rajasthan. And India's best 4 hotels are in Rajasthan. Endowed with natural beauty and a great history, tourism is a flourishing industry in Rajasthan.

 Rajasthan, land of the kings, famous worldwide for its historical, architectural and cultural heritage, is undoubtedly one of the best place to visit while on tour to India. The northwestern portion of Rajasthan is generally sandy and dry. Most of the region is covered by the Thar Desert, which extends into adjoining portions of Pakistan. The Aravalli Range does not intercept the moisture-giving southwest monsoon winds off the Arabian Sea, as it lies in a direction parallel to that of the coming monsoon winds, leaving the northwestern region in a rain shadow. The Thar Desert is thinly populated; the town of Bikaner is the largest city in the desert.The historical significance of Rajasthan is so deep that there is perhaps no any place in that don’t find any association with livid history of Rajasthan. 
Jaisalmer desert
 
Jaisalmer : 
Desert festival held every year in January/February is the best time to visit Jaisalmer, as the whole desert city frisks and reverberates to the tun of festivals. Besides visit to its very many sightseeing spots like Jaisalmer Fort, Desert National Park, Nathmalji Ki Haveli, Jain Temples, Gharisal and countless of Havelis of Jaisalmer are great wonder. 
Jaipur : 
The pink city of India, Jaipur, counted among one of the richest historical city of the country, is of great interest for tourists from all over. Sightseeing its many of the world famous historical spots like Amer Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort and Ram Niwas Bagh present best portrayal of architectural splendour and historical significance of India.

Jodhpur :
 
Once the capital of Marwar state, Jodhpur, set on the edge of desert, is full of forts, palaces and temples. Popular places like Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhavan Palace and Museum, Jaswant Thada, Government museum, Girdikot and Sardar market keep tourists engaged in gazing its architectural beauty. Besides shopping handicrafts items, such as Tie-and-dye fabric, embroidered Jutis, velvet and leather, and Durries are best buy here.

Bikaner : 
Popular forts and palaces, camels and dunes, and temples of Bikaner let tourists witness its graceful bygone royal days. Sposts like Junagarh Fort, Bhandaser Jain Temple, Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum, Laxmi Nath Temple, Camel Research Centre, Lallgarh Palace and Sadul museum are some place to be must visited.  
Reaching there
Though cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer are well connected to other cities, but Jaipur is main gateway to Rajasthan, as it has got very good link with international as well as domestic locations.

By Air :
Jaipur has air link with many of the major domestic locations like Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Aurangabad, Jodhpur and Udaipur. International travellers can land off at Delhi / Calcutta / Mumbai, and can fly easily to Jaipur by regular domestic airway.

By Rail :
Located in the heart of the town, railway station of jaipur has very good rail connection with cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ahmadabad, Agra, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner. From Delhi, taking Shatabdi express (every morning at 6:10 am), which leaves Delhi for Jaipur is the best way to reach.

By Road : Having an excellent road link between Delhi and Jaipur, to travel Jaipur by driving on four lane NH 8 through own vehicle or by bus is a joy. Smooth surface of road makes one to cover the total distance in 5-6 hours. Jaipur is well connected even with other cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur, Alwar, Bikaner and Jaisalmer.
