Munnar

Situated in the south Western Ghats of India, the name Munnar usually refers to the whole tourist area of the Idukki District of which the town forms only a small part.

Geography and climate

The region in and around Munnar varies in height from 2,000 meters (6,562 ft) to 2,600 meters (8,530 ft) above mean sea level. Munnar enjoys a salubrious climate. The temperature ranges between 10 °C (50 °F) and 0 °C (32 °F) in winter and 8 °C (46.4 °F) and 16 °C (60.8 °F) in summer. The tourist season in Munnar is from August to May. However, even the monsoons are lovely with many streams and rivulets in the area and post drizzle the dew drenched tea gardens looking majestic and heavenly enshrouded in light mist .

 Places of Interests

Pothamedu : It is the prime location of excellent viewing the tea, coffee and cardamom plantation of Munnar. Besides Pothmedu (6 km from Munnar) also invite trekkers and hikers to enjoy the adventurous gaiety of trekking and hiking.

Attukal : Located between Munnar and Pallivasal, Attukal is loved mostly by nature lovers. The beautiful hills and gurgling waterfalls are delight for nature lovers. It is also an ideal place for long trekking.

Devikulam : A very small hill station, Devikulam provides a pleasant getaway from the crowd of rest of the world. Sita Devi Lake here is a favourite picnic spot and also a good spot for fishing.

Nyayamakad : Nyayamakad is the land of beautiful waterfalls, which with its amazing picturesque has become a favourite picnic spot. For trekkers, Nyayamakad provides ideal trekking terrain.

Lock Heart Gap :
13 km from Munnar, Lock Heart Gap is famous for its panoramic beauty of its Western range of hills and its salubrious winds, and availability of splendid trekking opportunity.

Eravikulam National Park :
The famous national park of Eravilulam is just 15 km from Munnar. The park having the largest number of Nilgiri Tahr is the best abode of Nilgiri Tahr. Taking a safari tour on jeep or elephant is full of wildlife exploration, a superb delight for Eco tavellers. 

Reaching there

By Air : The nearest airport of Munnar is Kochi International Airport (130 km), which is linked with all major cities of india as well as many international locations. From Kochi one can easily reach Munnar by hiring taxi or taking bus.

By Rail : Kochi (130 km) connected to all major cities of country is also the nearest railhead of Munnar.

By Road : By road, Munnar is accessible from locations all major locations like Tiruvanthapuram, Kochi, Palani, Madurai, Coimbatore, Thekaddy and Kodaikanal. Buses of Kerala state road transport corporation ply to and from these locations.
